This assessment is for older drivers who feel that their skills may need to be updated or that they need to be sure that they are still safe to drive. Our aim is to help older drivers continue driving as long as they can do so safely. Once we have assessed your driving we can then give advice on what to do next. This may be as little as just saying you are still safe or we may suggest a period of retraining to update skills and gain more confidence.
There may be times when it is clear that you are no longer safe to drive and at a high risk of having an accident and on those occasions we will advise you on the process you need to follow. It is important to remember that this is not a driving test but an assessment of your ability. It can be particularly useful to have an assessment before applying to renew your licence as the report can be used to advise DVLA of how safe you are.
As well as being able to self-refer to most Centres, we conduct assessments on behalf of a variety of agencies including the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), Motability Managed Adaptations Programme (MAP) and Health Professionals such as Doctors, Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists.
