Driving Assessment Grant (DAG) - Driving Mobility

Driving Assessment Grant (DAG)

Funding support for drivers with disabilities who need a clinical driving assessment, vehicle adaptations and familiarisation lessons.

What is the Driving Assessment Grant (DAG)?

DAG is a grant funding scheme supported by the Motability Foundation to assist drivers with disabilities who are not Motability customers. The grant can help towards the costs of a driving assessment, vehicle adaptations and familiarisation lessons at a Driving Mobility Centre.

Who can apply?

The grant is available to disabled people who receive certain state benefits or are on low incomes. Contact your local Driving Mobility Centre to discuss your circumstances and eligibility.

What will the grant cover?

The grant aims to pay for a driving assessment at a Driving Mobility Centre and any recommended vehicle adaptations. The DAG can also pay for familiarisation sessions to enable grant recipients to learn how to use their new driving controls. ‘Exceptional’ circumstances, for example where costs exceed the maximum grant available, can be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Grants are one-off payments and any future maintenance, alterations or updates relating to any adaptations are not covered. Successful applicants will be asked to complete feedback questionnaires to help monitor the effectiveness of the scheme.

How many applicants will benefit during the grant period?

Driving Mobility and the Motability Foundation have a target of helping 250 people with this grant programme.

How do potential beneficiaries apply?

To apply for a DAG, contact should be made with the closest Driving Mobility Centre. Advisors at each Driving Mobility Centre will help each applicant apply for the funding.

What do DAG clients say?

“I have become more independent and can travel when I choose to. This has helped me socially as well as to work.”

“I can drive the car and go anywhere I want. The adaptation has been “life changing” and we’re so grateful for it.”
