Specialist lessons and assessment ensure Florence keeps driving with earlier Dementia

Florence MacGillivray, 79, lives in Inverness and following a diagnosis of Dementia, was advised not to drive.

After speaking with the DVLA, Mrs MacGillivray obtained a Provisional Disability Assessment Licence (PDAL) which allowed her to come to DriveAbility Scotland for a driving ability assessment. Mrs MacGillivray was very anxious about her assessment and came for two familiarisation lessons with our ADI, Stephen Somers, prior to her assessment.

Following her assessment, it was recommended that she could continue driving her automatic vehicle. Mrs McGillivray was delighted to hear this as she lives in a rural area and driving is important to her independence. Mrs MacGillivray is aware the time will come when she has to stop driving but is ‘over the moon’ she is able to continue driving just now.
