New Centre opens in Colchester - Driving Mobility

New Centre opens in Colchester

Open Day for Visitors Tuesday 25 July

East Anglian Driveability is opening a new centre at Colchester and the public are invited to come along and see what the centre is like and what they can expect if they choose to have an assessment there.

We are hoping that as well as members of the public, family and friends, health professionals including Doctors, OTs, Physios and SLTs will attend as well as practice managers, voluntary organisations, solicitors, road safety professionals, driving instructors and car dealerships.

Visitors will be able to talk to assessors about the assessment process including Cognitive, Visual and Physical aspects and on-the-road considerations. Our assessors comprise a team including Clinicians and Approved Driving Instructors with a specialisation in mobility issues. Many of our vehicles with adapted controls and other mobility-related adaptations will be on show for visitors to view. Demonstrations, test drives and trials using both our test rig as well as in one of our vehicles on the road, will be available.

Bugzi the award-winning indoor powered wheelchair for small children will also be on display. This specialist wheelchair is available on free loan to families who have a requirement for it from MERU (Queen Elizabeth Foundation) through East Anglian Driveability at Colchester and its other centres.

You are invited to attend between 10 am and 4pm on Tuesday 25th July with the official opening taking place at 11am. Further details can be obtained from Kim Bateman on 01787 222873 or kimb@eastangliandriveability.org.uk
